Time off policies
Start from the law for your country, then change anything with a draft and a start date.

A policy is a kind of time off: vacation, sick leave, maternity and so on.

Start from your country
On Time off › Policies, choose Add these policies to bring in your country's statutory set (or a common starting set). Each shows where its rules come from.
In Jamaica the set follows the law, with a few company choices on top that you can change:
- Vacation: up to 5 days carry into the next year; the rest is written off at year-end. The balance stops growing at 2 years' worth and starts again once it drops below.
- Paternity and adoption: 10 paid days each. They aren't required by law; the public sector gives 20.
- Maternity, paternity and adoption are separate kinds of time off, so each keeps its own rules and payroll code.
Change a policy
- Open it. Changes are a draft until you publish.
- Set how it's earned (each pay cycle, all at once, or per hour worked), the yearly amount by length of service, waiting periods, carry-over and expiry. Balance can't go over takes hours, or a number of years' worth that follows each person's length of service; hours earned over it are written off as they're earned, and the balance history says so.
- Try What-if: it replays last year under your draft and shows who gains or loses.
- Publish with a start date. Hours already earned stay. Nothing is taken back.
Blackout dates (busy times when time off is limited) are on the same page.
